I don’t think you’ve seen pure joy until you’ve watched children sled downhill. The big smiles and laughter make for a magical moment. For a little while, life is perfect. It’s one of those moments that I wish I could freeze….before my kids start whining about being cold or have a tantrum about the fact that their shoes are getting wet in the slushy snow. Motherhood has taught me that Hallmark moments are fleeting.
When our yard turned into a winter wonderland on December 18 and 19, we busted out with our sleds. To be honest, there wasn’t much else you could do in the snow. It wasn’t the fluffy snow that’s good for making a snowman.
Mila and Eli couldn’t get enough of the thrill of zooming downhill like a missile on ice. They get their daredevil spirit from their father. I stayed at the bottom of the slope so I could look at their priceless expressions. If I had stood at the top, I would have seen how truly steep the hill was, and then my mommy worry gene would have gone into overdrive. I’m always afraid that I’m one catastrophe away from a Today Show segment.
Siler, who’s not quite big enough for a full-on slide downhill, tried with all his might to drag Eli’s plasma car to the top of the hill. I guess he had ideas of his own about inventing a new way of sledding. Hmmm. I think I have another daredevil on my hands. I predict a lot of sleepless nights in my future.
